The Berkshire Glasgow Rangers Supporters Club started in June 2009 although the club had been meeting informally from the 2007 – 2008 season. The beginnings were in progress long before the first informal meeting with Steve MacLeod and others meeting regularly in Reading to watch Rangers games when a local watering hole could be found that was happy to show the game.
When it became obvious that there were a large number of Rangers fans living in Berkshire and the surrounding counties, (primarily as a result of them informally meeting in Reading Railway Station which was a hub for fans travelling to Manchester for the UEFA Cup Final
Soon a number of fans were coming together to watch the “Gers”, they came from Reading, from Maidenhead and Windsor, from Ascot, Caversham, Twyford, Wokingham and more and more joined in the fun.
We were fortunate to find a Sports Bar that was willing to show our games and the name of the establishment concerned just happened to be the Orange House!
We grew steadily from about a dozen to 70 plus for the Celtic games and the SPL decider against Dundee United…………………………what a day that was!
Sadly the Orange House closed its doors for the final time just after the cup final which was a sad time for all of us. We had grown as a club, we had the staff in the Pub converted to Rangers fans, at least on a Saturday or Sunday and who will forget the party atmosphere the day we won the league!
A new venue was found at the end of the season, The Red Lion and our inaugural AGM was held in their lounge.
As we start the new season we have seventy plus more members and more joining us on a weekly basis.
Bedecked in our Royal Loyal Polo Shirts we had our first away game at the Emirates Stadium for the games against Arsenal and Paris St Germaine followed by a cultural evening in London in the presence of Andy Goram, Derek Ferguson and Bobby Watson.
The club is getting stronger, memberships is growing and we have some great people, what makes it all so special is that we can all come together for the games with the most important thing in common, We are all Rangers supporters!
